March 2011 - Secure Protocols and Systems Laboratory led by Professor Verma holds Security Day 2011.

CIARE and SPSL hosted Computer Security Day in March 2011. Groups of students were given a machine to secure in one hour while ensuring the smooth operation of basic services such as a database server, a web server, etc. After the hour is over, the groups find vulnerabilities in the machines of other groups and try to attack them.

April 2009 - Secure Protocols and Systems Laboratory led by Professor Verma holds Security Day 2009.

Computer Science students in the Spring 2009 Computer and Network Security course, taught by Professor Verma, are learning practical techniques for securing computer systems and networks through a cyber war group exercise held for the first time in CS@UH. Students were divided into two groups and give a Linux machine. Each group was given over an hour to secure the system and two hours to find security flaws in the other group's system and attack it. Both groups had to play some defense during th is period as well. Each group had to maintain a reasonable level of services (e.g., internet connectivity, email, etc.) throughout the ex ercise. The response was overwhelmingly positive. Dr. Babu Sundaram, system administrator of CS@UH provided excellent support for the exe rcise, which is gratefully acknowledged. Pictures!
